Our multi-disciplinary approach has resulted in a landmark building.
The project
Development of this supermarket was greatly anticipated by residents in a region which is still predominantly rural with roots in agriculture, horticulture and viticulture. With an influx of residential developments as outer Auckland suburbs strain to absorb the ever-increasing population, this Foodstuffs development has markedly improved retail services to the area.
Babbage teams were involved in the project from its inception demonstrating our multi-disciplinary methodology. Integrated design and documentation packages were delivered under pressure to fast-track the project which enabled completion on time and on budget. Our service across disciplines was crucial as the project had considerable site constraints.
Our Civil, Geotech, Environmental and Survey Teams provided technical advice on flooding, site contamination and stability for a District Plan change application which allowed development of the supermarket and adjacent town centre.Following on from the site investigation and ground works our Structural, Architectural and Building Services Teams managed the completion of the building design. The store’s design, visibility and presence has created a landmark building for the area.
The approach
Subtle details were used in the architectural design of the building including a flax motif embossed into the precast concrete panels and exterior paint colours to reflect the local landscape and soften the commercial requirements of the building design.LED lighting, heat recovery and other ecologically sustainable design (ESD) principles were used to provide energy efficiencies for the client.
Across the past 12 years Babbage teams have developed an ongoing relationship with Foodstuffs and have completed over 60 commercial projects with the retail cooperative to date. This relationship is based on clear knowledge and understanding of specific requirements within FMCG markets and continues with Babbage’s current involvement in the development or refurbishment of several Foodstuffs sites.
